NRHS Alexander North Carolina Chapter

About Our Chapter

The Alexander Chapter NRHS is one of the oldest railroad preservation organizations in western North Carolina. Chartered in 1979, our group directly covers Catawba, Caldwell, Alexander, Lincoln, Burke and Watauga counties. We are joint operators of the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum located in Newton, NC. Our collection includes Virginia-Carolina 2-6-0 No. 50; as well as the most diverse narrow gauge freight car collection in the southeast. We offer opportunities that include modeling club layouts in N, HO, and O scales; as well as opportunities as museum docents or restoration work of historic rolling stock. All ages are welcome!
