NRHS Alexander North Carolina Chapter

About Our Chapter

The Alexander Chapter NRHS was chartered in 1979 in western North Carolina. We are joint operators of the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum located in Newton, NC. Our collection includes Virginia & Carolina 2-6-0 Alco # 50, an operable Alexander Railroad Co. Alco S-3 switcher, a former Amtrak dining car “SILVER RESTAURANT” (ex-CB&Q). We also have one of  the most diverse narrow gauge freight car collections in the southeast. Our chapter maintains and restores equipment at our pavilion for current and future projects. We offer opportunities in the museum’s Model Railroad Center that include club layouts in N, HO, and O scales. All ages are welcome!

The Chapter will be hosting the 2027 National Narrow Gauge Convention.
