About Our Chapter

The George L. Carter Chapter, NRHS, is an all-volunteer organization affiliated with the George L. Carter Railroad Museum, Inc., dba Johnson City Railroad Experience meeting at the museum at 207 N. Boone Street, Johnson City, Tenn. The Chapter has monthly meetings with a variety of programs and plans regional rail fanning excursions each Spring and Fall. The Chapter is engaged in collecting oral histories of local Southern Appalachian railroads and railroading, i.e., Clinchfield, Southern and the ET&WNC “Tweetsie”, that will be archived at the university. Visitors are always welcome to attend our meetings and join in our activities. The Chapter provides personnel support to the Carter Railroad Museum by providing docents to staff the museum during museum operating hours and for special events hosted by the museum. Many of the members participate in local activities in the surrounding communities as representatives of the Chapter.
